Happy Blogiversary!

The art of writing is the art of discovering what you believe. — Gustave Flaubert

WordPress.com generated a 2011 Blog Report for me, and as it coincides with my 1-year Blogiversary, I thought I would share my past year with you!  As of yesterday, January 19, I have been writing this blog for one year!  Happy 1-year Blogiversary to me, and YOU, my readers!  I thank you all for your support, comments, thoughts, suggestions, and laughs along the way!

My Very First Post

January 19, 2011 – Diving In.

Crunchy Numbers

The concert hall at the Sydney Opera House holds 2,700 people. This blog was viewed about 9,000 times in 2011. If it were a concert at Sydney Opera House, it would take about 3 sold-out performances for that many people to see it.

In 2011, there were 164 new posts, not bad for the first year!

The busiest day of the year was January 25th with 286 views. The most popular post that day was Lean Start.

How did you find me?

Where did you come from?

Most visitors came from The United States. Canada & The United Kingdom were not far behind.

What are some post ideas that I have played around with in the past?

I started a “Wednesday Whatabouts” series.  Whatabouts (noun): The matters which one is occupied with.  That was fun for a while…posting about something fun, new, unique, or just something that catches my eye, (Music, Dopplegangers, Blogging, Reading Challenges, Collections, Rainbows, Zebra Patterns, Birthday Celebrations, Secret Millionaire, Chick Porn, Suitcases, Beautiful Braids, Geocaching, Classic Clothbound Books) but then I got out of the habit of posting them after the first few months.

I then started to test the waters of the literary world by posting a few Book Reviews.  I think that is a limited audience, and I have even toyed with the idea of started a separate blog just for my reading pleasure.  If you are curious about my taste in books, click on the “Read” tab above or check out “My 2011 Book Retreat“.  If you want to see if you agree with my Reviews, I have posted the following: Life of Pi by Yann Martel, Little Bee by Chris Cleave, Child 44 by Tom Rob Smith, The Girl in the Green Raincoat by Laura Lippman, The Hunger Games Characters, Water for Elephants by Sara Gruen, Room by Emma Donoghue, and The Book Thief by Markus Zusak.

I originally started a “Lean Review” series to document my fitness & weight-loss journey.  The goal of these posts were mainly to be informative pieces about fitness, nutrition, and improving your self-esteem.  Those posts evolved into the training series for my first ever half marathon – the Gulf Coast Half Marathon on the Louisiana Northshore.  Once that goal was complete, and I wrote up the 13.1 Things I Learned From My First Half Marathon, I decided to try another half marathon.  So now my posts are focused around my training for the Rock ‘n’ Roll New Orleans Half Marathon.

And, of course, as for the title of the blog, I started a “Daydream” series…featuring beautiful and unique travel daydreams!  My Daydream List is just that – a list of adventures and places that would otherwise fill my bulletin boards, drawers, and notebooks.  It includes rugger terrain and serene beaches, oceanic endeavors and oriental exploration – anything and everything that makes my heart beat faster.  It is not a bucket list, there is no box to be checked, or expectation to be filled.  Instead, it is a list of opportunities, and I hope to take on several of them in my lifetime.  In my mind I daydreamed about: Machu Piccu, Italy, Outer Space, Child’s Home Library, Belgium, Ireland, US by Rail, Singapore Pool, Urnatur Sweden, Dubrovnik Croatia, Socotra, Gibraltar, and Seychelles.  I really need to get back into letting my mind wander again…

Thank you for sharing this year with me!

I write not only for my own benefit, but also in hopes that I can entertain you with my thoughts along the way.   Therefore, I am asking what YOU would like to see more of on Daydreams & Shoestrings?  What topics did you enjoy most?  What topics did you just skim over?  PLEASE BE HONEST – I WELCOME ALL THOUGHTS!
