Daydream: Giethoorn, Holland

Today I’m dreaming about the charming village of Giethoorn – nicknamed “the Venice of the North” for it is a village without streets!  The entire village is made of canals, wooden arch bridges, reed covered farm houses, and beautiful gardens.  Giethoorn’s history goes back to around 1200 when fugitives from the Mediterranean region founded the area and dug canals for transport.  Today, about 7.5 km of canals (only about 1 meter deep) run through the little village and all travel is done on the water by ‘whisper-boats,’ known for their small, quiet electric motors.  Such a Picturesque place IS DEFINITELY somewhere I would love to visit!  (Source, Source)
