On Sunday, June 9th, Nick and I celebrated 6 years of marriage! This year, we spent the week in Punta Cana, Dominican Republic!
We arrived in Punta Cana mid-afternoon via New Orleans to Atlanta to Punta Cana. Upon arrival, we were ecstatic to see the airport covered in thatch! How island-y. We later learned that the airport is built in a traditional Dominican style – with open-air terminals and the roofs covered in palm fronds. We stood in line to pay a $10/person Visitor Fee, and then were quickly escorted out of the security line (because I accidentally scored an AWESOME deal via Delta on first-class tickets!). We literally bypassed security – and were taken directly to the Blue Travel desk, where we were given a van number and escorted to the front of the airport. Upon finding our van, we were delighted to find that we were the only guests – so we drove directly to the resort. Driving…now THAT was an adventure. Narrow roads…drivers ignoring stop signs…motocylists within INCHES of fast-moving cars!!! Whew…I was ever so excited to reach the resort 20 minutes later!
The morning of our Anniversary was actually spent doing a resort tour and Timeshare presentation. Although we appreciated the “inside view” of all three of the on-site resorts, we were ready to head out to the beach for some fun in the sun! After a quick lunch at one of the 7 on-site restaurants, we spent the afternoon walking up and down the beach and taking in the breathtaking views!
I planned my initial “The Real Dominican” tour via recommendations on Trip Advisor – Punta Cana Mike. However, once we got to the resort, our host suggested we take a look at some of the deals offered by our resort. We already knew that we wanted to try Parasailing….so we got a deal if we booked another excursion. As I wasn’t tied down to the original tour, we quickly decided on the “Bavaro Runners Adventures” VIP Safari Day Tour. Activities included: lunch in the mountain, horse back riding on a country farm, driving through the town of Higuey, stopping by to see a local school, experiencing real Dominican cocao and rum making, and swimming at Macao Beach. My next post is going to fully feature the day’s activities…so I will leave you with a teaser picture below!
These days were dedicated to lounging around the Pool and taking a lil’ golf cart ride down to the local shopping mall – located on-site at the resort!
The entire morning was dedicated to our Parasailing adventure! We had an absolute BLAST!!! An upcoming post will feature the entire experience, so for now, I will leave you with the teaser below!
Beach Day. We just couldn’t get enough!!!!
Ah…the week went by entirely too fast!!! On Saturday, we had an early afternoon flight that left for Orlando.
Sunday was the day for catching up with the family, and spending countless hours playing with the kids in the hotel pool and game room!
The hubby, the brother-in-law, and I took the three lil’ ones to Universal Studios: Island of Adventure. We had a BLAST checking out Harry Potter, Dr. Seuss, and Spiderman! Ok….we might have visited Harry Potter more than once…I’m just saying. Don’t worry – there is an upcoming post on our adventure in The Wizarding World of Harry Potter!
…and for a lil’ preview…
Finally…11 days later…we flew back home to New Orleans. We quickly grabbed our bags, and drove across the Causeway, and couldn’t wait to be greeted with lots of very excited kitty meows!
Next posts – 1) “The Real Dominican” Tour, 2) Parasailing over Punta Cana, 3) Dominican Republic – Mamajuana Style! and 4) The Wizarding World of Harry Potter!
