The Wizarding World of Harry Potter!

“Welcome.  Welcome to a new year at Hogwarts!  Before we begin our banquet, I would like to say a few words.  And here they are: Nitwit! Blubber! Oddment! Tweak!  Thank you!” – Albus Dumbledore

If you aren’t familiar with those words, then you probably won’t understand most of this post. 🙂

This is Post #5 in the 6-Year Anniversary series.  As a wonderful ending to our 6-year anniversary trip to Punta Cana, Dominican Republic, the hubby and I made a 3-day stopover in Orlando, FL to visit some family.  On our last full day in town, we took our niece and nephews to Universal Studios – Island of Adventures….mostly because I really, really, really wanted to visit The Wizarding World of Harry Potter.  Yes, I’m a total Harry Potter nerd, and it was a  dream come true for me (it’s even on my 30 During 30s list).  I’ve been obsessed with all things Harry Potter for a VERY long time – in fact, just after my mom and brother read the first book – which was published in the US in 1998.  I honestly can’t believe Harry Potter has been a part of my life for 15 years. 15 years!  Enough with the misty eyes…

Here’s a photo recap of our fabulous day:

For the rides, there is The Forbidden Journey, The Dragon Challenge, and the Flight of the Hippogriff.  The Dragon Challenge was the only ride the 7-year old twins were not big enough to ride yet…but the others were a BLAST!  You can grab some food at The Three Broomsticks.  You can also do some fun shopping in Hogsmeade – Honeydukes, Ollivanders, Dervish and Banges, Zonkos, the Owl Post.  And the best of all…grab some good ol’ Butterbeer to quench your thirst during the hot summer day!

What an amazing, amazing, amazing day and place.  The highlights are definitely 1) The Castle and 2) The Forbidden Journey ride.  You enter through the towering castle gates and make your way through the familiar passageways and corridors of Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry.  You’ll visit iconic locations such as Dumbledore’s office, the Defense Against the Dark Arts classroom, the Gryffindor common room, and more!  And then the ride….it was a seriously amazing.  We rode it twice.  You soar above the castle grounds with Harry and the gang on broomsticks – coming face-to-face with many magical creatures!

Previous posts in this Anniversary series: 1) Bienvenidos a Republica Dominicana, 2) “The Real Dominican” Tour, 3) Parasailing over Punta Cana, and 4) Dominican Republic – Mamajuana Style!

Thank you for sharing in our 6-year anniversary! Until next year…

xoxoJen
