Liebster Award – Round 1!

Why, thank you…thank you very much!”  I was recently nominated by the ever-awesome blogger Kris at Canadian Girl Runs for the Liebster Award, a pass-it-on questionnaire that makes for a fun post on someone’s blog.  As I was super slow to re-post, I got nominated again by the wonderful Cori at Read.Write.Run.Mom.  These ladies are AWESOME and two of the first Canadian bloggers I started following (along with Leana!)   And then, because I was SUPER SUPER SLOW at posting, like at a turtle pace….I got a THIRD nomination from one of my new teammates and fellow ambassador at Girls Gone Sporty – Emily at Whatever Floats Your Oats!!!  I love how everyday I get a chance to connect with a new blogger!!!  🙂

I would love to answer all of the questions posed to me – so I am breaking up this post into a mini-series.  Round 1 – I will introduce you to some of my favorite runner/fitness enthusiast inspirations!  Round 2 – I will introduce you to even more of my favorite bloggers with some non-running related questions, since, you know, I DO sometimes have a life outside of running! And Round 3 – I will introduce you to some of my new fellow Girls Gone Sporty Ambassadors!  I hope you enjoy learning this much about me.  But even more so, I hope you enjoy meeting 30 AWESOME bloggers!!!

The idea is that when someone is nominated, they answer ten questions posted by the nominator, then in turn, nominate ten more people (don’t forget to let them know!) with their own ten questions, and so it continues.  So without further adieu…

{ Kris’s Questions }

  1. What is your favourite distance to run?
    —  Just to go out and run…I’m completely content with 4 miles.  Random, right?!  For races, I love the half marathon!  It pushes me every.single.time.  I think I would actually love to try a few more 10K’s though…I have an inkling that could easily be a favorite race distance.
  2. If you could run a race anywhere in the world where would it be?
    — The Great Wall of China.  ‘Nuff said.
  3. Who is your biggest fitness inspiration?
    — I’ve been reading Amanda’s blog (Run to the Finish) for YEARS now…and this woman is just simply…amazing.  Her tag line – “Passionate Runner Training for Life.”  To me, she is a blogger celebrity, yet so down to earth.  She is always looking for new motivation to push herself, while continually hoping to inspire those around her.  And she isn’t afraid to discuss real-life topics that surround us all. 
  4. Ten years ago today, what would be the “most played song” on your iPod (or walkman, or mp3,or discman… I really don’ t know the timeline of technology ;)?
    — Oh my gosh…this was a fun trip down memory lane as 2004 was my junior year of college (aka – university)!!!  So here are the top few that I can remember playing EVERYWHERE:  1) Yeah! by Usher, 2) Dirt Off Your Shoulder by Jay Z, 3) Live Like You Were Dying by Tim McGraw, 4) When the Sun Goes Down by Kenny Chesney, and 5) This Love by Maroon 5.
  5. What is your favourite restaurant?
    — There is a lil’ hole in the wall Mexican restaurant back home in Parkersburg, West Virginia, USA – called Gran Ranchero (used to be El Ranchero).  The food NEVER disappoints…it is completely authentic and tasty…they serve fabulous margatas…and they have the most amazing white cheese dip.  But perhaps most of the fun stems from the fact that it is now a tradition that we eat there at least twice every time we fly home, once with each set of parents!  When we lived in Bakersfield, California, USA – the hubby and I were HEAD OVER HEELS with a local restaurant called Tahoe Joe’s.  Their steak nachos are the BEST.  While living in Louisiana, I honestly don’t know if I could pick a favorite, as I was always ready to explore the flavors of New Orleans!  And here in Calgary…so far all my cravings lead to UNA Pizza & Wine.
  6. What is the best advice you could give someone who is just starting to get into fitness?
    — Running is a process – and one that you should definitely enjoy along the way.  Running isn’t always about speed, PR’s, or how far you go.  It is so easy to get caught up in comparing yourself to others…but you need to listen to your own body.  Try working out in the morning and at night to see what works for you.  Try eating different foods before, during, and after runs to see what works for you.  Try running alone…and try running with a partner…and try running with a group…all of these at least once to see what works for you.  Every person has unique intrinsic motivations…so please get to know you and your running style…and INDULGE yourself with that works for you!
  7. Favourite dessert?
    — Cheese cake with strawberry drizzle.
  8. What is one piece of technology you just CANNOT live without?
    — G.P.S.  I don’t care if it’s car, phone, or watch.  I know for a fact that I could not survive in the world with the old paper maps.  Even following printed directions from Map Quest….I get so flustered if there is a road closure or detour….EEEK – I’m sweating just thinking about it!!! 
  9. What is your favourite TV show?
    Ay-yi-yi.  The hubby and I watch a TON of TV shows.  For completed series, we literally flew through Smallville, Prison Break, and Fringe!!!  For guilty pleasures, I devour Glee, Once Upon a Time, and Project Runway.  For current shows, I’m loving Modern Family and NCIS.
  10. Finally, what made you decide to start blogging?
    — Honestly, I was hooked on my friend Kimi’s blog (you can find her on Twitter now!).  Through her, I found the blogging world to be full of new and exciting people and topics and races!!!  After many months of reading health & wellness, travel, and fashion blogs – I was inspired to start contributing my own thoughts and feelings on topics I love.  My top priority at the time my attempt to be more fit: to get back into running – to become a better athlete – to eat a little healthier.  And I also have a serious case of Wanderlust…so I wanted to document all the amazing places that exist in the world (Daydreams!)

  1. Thanks for the nomination!! Love your responses. I also love the half marathon distance.. those songs you list from 10 yrs ago totally bring back memories of my college days, ha ha! I also loooove mexican food, especially guacamole:)
